How Do I Pay for Long Term Care in Las Vegas?

Long-term care is a range of services and support you may need to meet your personal care needs. 70% of people turning 65 can expect to use some form of long-term care during their lives. Long-term care services and support typically come from unpaid caregivers like family and friends, nurses that come to the home or long-term care facilities like TLC Care Center, a privately owned and operated skilled nursing facility.

How do Nevada residents pay for long-term care?

The facts may be a little surprising as consumer surveys reveal misunderstandings about which programs pay for long-term care services.

Medicaid: Medicaid pays for most long-term care services needed by individuals. In order to qualify, your income must be below a certain level and you must meet minimum Nevada state eligibility requirements.

Medicare: pays for long-term care if you require skilled services or rehabilitative care. Generally, Medicare pays for nursing home services for a maximum of 100 days. It is important to note that Medicare does not pay for non-skilled assistance with ADL (Activities of Daily Living).

Private Health Insurance: most employer-sponsored or private health insurance plans cover the same limited services as Medicare. If they do cover long-term care, it is typically for only skilled, short-term, medically necessary care.

Other Federal Programs: the Older Americans Act and the Department of Veterans Affairs pay for long-term care services, but only for qualified individuals.

Long-term insurance and life insurance options: There are a number of private payment insurance options that include long-term care insurance and life insurance options. It’s important to research both options so that you do not over-pay or under-pay for insurance needs.

The skilled staff at TLC Care Center can help you evaluate how you will pay for long-term care. Every situation is unique. You have a unique set of long-term care requirements and you may qualify for programs you are unaware of.
